Construction has started on a new American style Truck Stop on sate highway 1 at Riverlands (opposite Montana Winery) in Blenheim.
To be known as the Riverlands Roadhouse the project is being developed by David Wagner who has 20 years experience in developing warehouse and distribution projects and says that the Roadhouse which will operate 24/7 will be the first facility of its type in the country geared specifically towards the long haul truck industry.
Located just outside the main township of Blenheim the site is some 35min driving time from the Picton Ferry terminal and seems ideally situated for the needs of the industry. Transit New Zealand are fully behind the project and a new exit lane and entranceway directly onto the state highway will allow traffic movements to be simple and safe.
The Truck Stop will be a state of the art complex with a sealed parking lot to initially house 50 B Train rigs at any one time, with the option to expand this by a further 20 rigs should demand warrant. A number of these parks are powered and there are also a number of other parks for medium and small sized units. Short term powered container storage will be made available should a need for it be identified.
The entire complex will be fully managed well lit at night, and have full camera security surveillance.
Features will include :
An ablution block sits within the parking area for drivers sleeping in their rigs which includes toilets, showers, cooking facilities internet and TV room as well as a Laundromat and vending machines.
Adjacent to the parking lot is a fully fledged 24/7 restaurant / diner and 20 specially designed truckers motel suites which can be rented on an hourly basis day or night. The units will be modern and practical in design and the Restaurant is based on what could best be described as a country and western / highway culture theme with log fire, timber floors and features a horse shoe coffee bar.
David Wagner says that his company has gone to great lengths to design the Truck Stop towards what they perceive to be the needs of the industry however as this is a whole new concept for New Zealand, they welcome any feed back or suggestion readers may have
Any operators who wish to discuss long term or permanent booking opportunities or simply get more information, they should call David on 0274 324940
